Chapter 1, Session 1 Recap

The players gathered up and some rolled up new characters, other moved a character over from another campaign to this one. All characters are considered level 1, and level 2. Here is a recap of events that happened, as told by our Paladin... (more after the read on..)

The party meeting in secrecy beneath the local tavern were introduced to the local "rebels" fighting the oppression of Asmoedeus. A few of the party members looking to do what they can asked how they could help and were sent on a quest. Asmoedeus has placed 6 beacons throughout the realm that are believed to have some effect one the comings and goings of the devils from his realm to this. We were directed to go to the nearest and see what could be found and if possible destroy it.

The party left the following morning and almost immediately ran into a patrol lead by a large demonic looking creature. After bribes were exchanged and the party was able to proceed though the paladin (me, Thorindor) was almost sniffed out by the beast.

We arrived at the port town as directed by our conspirators and began to seek out a route to a captain willing to take us to the island with the first beacon. The city was very well secured so stealth was required while traversing the town.
At one point a small halfling female was being chased by the local thugs and Thorindor decided to do what he could. He took the small halfling up, wrapped himself in his cloak and pretended to be a fatter than normal version of himself while the guards looked elsewhere. Once the guards moved on the halfling was given money to provide for herself and the party moved on.
They found work with a local merchant that promised to get them past the checkpoints in town to the docks. After a grueling 3 hours work the party was taken to the docks where they found passage on a barely seaworthy ship and began their trek across the water.

The party's boat trip was nearly 3 days during which they had a brief encounter with shark people. At the end of the 3 days a ship was spotted following our own and the Captain demanded we disembark immediately. We did, on a poorly constructed life boat and headed for the nearest land... which was our first beacons location.

After rowing our way into the island and battling the water down the rapids we finally found a place to land the boat and continue on foot. We donned our armor (did I forget to mention the damn boat was leaking and fearing being drowned we removed our armor) we pressed on.

Fighting off the jungles attempts to stop us we eventually made our way to the location of the beacon. Atop a pyramid we found a group of the devils followers and bravely struck them down to stop the ceremony they were about to perform. At this battle the first conflict within the party arose when Zeyne, a warrior of rash decisions and little thinking, struck down the lone surviving enemy that had surrendered to the party. Thorindor did his best to sway the brash warrior from doing such things in the future. Normally Thorindor could get most of what he wanted when it came to dealing with the ladies of the realm but this one was being most stubborn but it did seem... for now, she would hold her sword next time it seemed.

Moving deeper the party encountered several other pockets of resistance, mostly gnolls. There was one beast that none of the party had seen before and still do not know it's origins. It was a tall creature some 12-15 feet tall that was eating the bones of some dead thing. Thorindor, sensing the beast was not of dark heart, managed to convince the party to avoid fighting the beast and moved past it with only one bruised eye for their troubles.

The party moved deeper into the pyramid seeking the beacon or it's source of power. A strange room behind a secret door baffled the party. The floor was made of ice and on the opposite side of the secret door was another door with a leaver next to it. Whilst a few folks made their way across Ajani (a cleric in the party) decided he would pull the leaver which caused the floor to collapse. After many disgruntled comments the party climbed out of the pit and moved through the room to find what lay beyond in the next.

Which is where we left the session, in the center of the next room was a floating, glowing, orb.
